- The Gazette, November 10th 2008
Almost Blue, the current production, features among its characters two men who met while in prison - and one
who is just out and trying to stay straight. Altera Vitae is lending support to a new community organization
called Neo-Dep, which is intended to help former inmates reintegrate into society after having served their prison terms.

Almost Blue journeys into the dark night
- The Monitor, November 6th 2008
With arts and culture in the forefront these days, Carolyn hope the audience is as moved as she is by the play and the power
of theatre in general, “If it wasn’t for the arts, we’d remain unaware and numb about what goes on around us.”

The November theatre scene
- The Senior Times, November 2008
Our very own off-Broadway temple, the Main Line, hosts Almost Blue. The script, about an ex-con and a beautiful
woman (please somebody, write about an average looking heroine!) in trouble with a web of mind games is enhanced
by director Carolyn Fe’s original song of the same title and sung by her. Multitalented Patrick Goddard, manager
of the venue, is also among the cast.

Kind of blue
- The McGill Daily, November 13th 2008
The play consists of one set: a run-down, grim apartment inhabited by main character, Phil, impressively played
by Rick Bel. The story unfolds as the dark secrets of a man trying to stay out of jail, a guileful ex-con, a damsel
in distress, and a rejected pornography writer unravel before our eyes. This is stage noir at its finest.

NDG connections for Mainline's production of 'night, Mother'
- The West End Chronicle, March 12nd 2008
When Carolyn-Fe Trinidad, a longtime NDG resident, decided to launch a brand new indie theatre company
(Altera Vitae Productions, after the Latin "Spes Altera Vitae" for 'Hoping for a Different Life"), she
decided to go with a play on suicide for her inaugural show. Right off the bat, Trinidad seems to be
telling us that pertinent will always win over perky. '"night, Mother' has been in my system since it
came out in the 80's," Trinidad explains. "My hope is that when audiences leave the room, they realize
how each relationship is so time-sensitive. We never know when we're talking to someone, if we'll see
them again. Today, with high tech invading our lives, it's too easy to send emails, emotions/intents get
lost in cyberspace."

Theatre and social work mingle in Altera Vitae’s first production, ’night Mother
- The Montreal Mirror, March 20th 2008
Carolyn-Fe Trinidad’s day job is a place with a lot of “artistes manqué,” apparently. Among her clients
over the years, Trinidad has found a musical collaborator for her band, sponsors for her theatre company,
and even a husband (who’s also a photographer).

’night Mother
- MonTheatre.qc.ca, March 22nd 2008
‘Night Mother has been presented twice this year in Montreal; once this Fall in French at the Théâtre de l’Esquisse
and now at the Mainline Theatre in English. For having seen both productions, I can say that if the French version
was finely translated and had great qualities, the power of this text truly reveals in its original language.

'night, Mother @ Mainline Theatre
- Orcasound, March 19th 2008
The emotional stakes are high in this play and we would not want it any other way due to the subject matter.
It is treated with the respect it deserves. Take in this play or you’ll regret it! Though the character Jessie
says that she feels as if she wants to get off the bus, I guarantee that you never will.

Out of Town Shows
- Scene Changes (Toronto), March 2008
Altera Vitae is proud to present their inaugural production, ‘night, Mother , the 1983 Pulitzer Prize winner by
Marsha Norman, playing at Mainline Theatre from March 19 to 30. This new Montreal company aims to produce works
of theatre that engage and service the community. With each new production, Altera Vitae will partner itself with
a charitable organization whose mandate is similar to themes in the play and pledge a donation from the production's
profits as well as assist the organization in their public awareness strategies. For ‘night, Mother, Altera Vitae
supports FSOS (Family Survivors of Suicide) . Says Altera Vitae artistic director Carolyn-Fe Trinidad, “We hope to
spread the word about this valuable organization through our production.” ‘night, Mother follows Jessie as she prepares
to die, wrapping up her affairs as she tutors her mother in survival. The play, with it's realistic dialogue, is a
heart-wrenching look at the ‘could-have-beens' and ‘if-onlys' that get in the way when what one should be doing most
is listening. While many productions of ‘night, Mother have centred on Jessie, Altera Vitae focuses on Mama's turmoil.
With Quebec's present suicide rate, one of the top five in the world, the play remains topical. Directed by Jesse Corbeil
and starring Sandy Ferguson and Alexandra Valassis, 'Night Mother plays at the Mainline Theatre, 3997 Blvd. St. Laurent,
Montreal.
’night Mother
- The Burlington Times (Vermont), March 22th 2008
’night, Mother is a play about suicide, and painless it most certainly is not. Perhaps you were thinking that taking
in a little theatre might give you a much-needed lift as this sombre winter draws to an ungracious and dilatory close.
This is not the play for you.

Modern-day Persephone myth revisits Mainline Theatre
- Invisible Cities Network, March 28th 2008
No mere chance that mother, Thelma (Sandy Ferguson) dresses in vibrant red silk slippers and house-coat, whereas daughter
Jessie (Alexandra Valassis) wraps herself in some shapeless loose-fitting grey. On this fateful evening, the overt contrast
between mother and daughter only intensifies as the moments tick away, dispassionately recorded by the old-fashioned clock,
hooked to the kitchen door.

Does Suicide have to be the main theme on stages this season?
- The Montreal Gazette, March 29th 2008
After the play, each night, they come forward to speak to the audience about FSOS (Family Survivors of Suicide), a self-help
group that offers support to those who have lost loved ones to suicide. A portion of the proceeds from the production goes
to FSOS. Wouldn't it be wonderful if all the big-budget theatre companies presenting suicide plays did the same thing? Just
a thought.
